Subject Outline
In Technology students enjoy a range of working activities with a strong emphasis on
designing and making.
Students learn skills in Food, Textiles, Product Design and Resistant Materials. They
design, cook, sew, print, work with metal, wood and plastics, and make their own circuits
in electronics. They also study the theory which underlies the business of making and
become familiar with the work of designers.
National Curriculum Technology also requires that students understand the functional
characteristics of mechanisms and electrical systems in everyday use in a wide range of
products.
Students at Thomas Adams become adept performers in 'Design and Make' activities
which are enriched through the use of the computer and high tech output devices e.g.
laser and vinyl cutter.
Assessment is based upon practical and folder work.
Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11 students are strongly encouraged to take a GCSE course in at least
