Exam Results
Adams College celebrated best ever examination results in 2011.
Celebrating Achievement Document 2011
Adams College:
In 2011, the overall pass rate at A level was 99%. Over half of all grades awarded were A* - B grades and nearly 80% of grades awarded were in the A-C range!
Given the genuinely open-access policy of the College and our commitment to enter every student who completes the course for the final examination, we feel this was an excellent result. What such bald statistics conceal, however, is often more revealing than the figure itself:
-
many students who had joined us with very modest GCSE results achieved grades high enough to gain university places
-
28 seperate subject areas achieved a pass rate of 100%.
-
the figures include results for students with learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) and for foreign students who sat A levels in what was, for them, a foreign language.
-
Over 75% of the passes at A level were within the grade range A to C so it is not surprising that most of our students qualified successfully for Higher Education places, including Oxbridge.
- Many students gained A*/A grades in all of their academic subjects.
Following the most recent Ofsted inspection the following was noted: Both retention and progression rates in the sixth form are high and recruitment is very good. Students make good progress as shown by their work in lessons and how well they progress in relation to target grades set, based on prior attainment. They develop extremely well personally in both confidence and maturity and are well prepared for their futures.

A Level Results Day - PRESS RELEASE
Adams College, Wem celebrates outstanding A-level results
Adams College, Wem, the sixth-form centre of the Thomas Adams School, was today celebrating yet another outstanding set of A-level results.
Adams College students achieved a pass rate of over 99% with half of all grades awarded being in the A*-B grade range while over three-quarters of grades were A* – C. Indeed, 28 subject areas have achieved a 100% pass rate.
A delighted Principal, Mr Neil Hemming, was keen to underline all the hard work that had gone into preparing for these examinations.
“This is an absolutely superb set of results and clearly represents the tremendous effort and commitment put in by our students and staff over these past two years. I congratulate the students on their marvellous achievements and would like to wish them all the very best as they move on to university or into employment. Moreover, let’s not forget that these results include many wonderful individual achievements with many students achieving straight A*/A grades, which has enabled them to take up places at the country’s leading universities including Oxbridge. It is wonderful to think that these students will be embarking on courses to prepare them for ambitious career paths, such as architecture, law, engineering, business management, medicine and veterinary science.”
A delighted Director of Sixth Form, Lorna Withey, added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank students, parents and staff for all their efforts and would wish all our students the very best for the future. I am so happy that all the hard work put in by everyone has come to fruition.”
